Data: Zimbabwe Population Using the Internet (1997-2022)

WHILE Zimbabwe has seen an increase in the number of people using the internet in Zimbabwe since the 1997, the percentage population subscribed has still remained below the 50% mark, new data has shown.

Internet users are individuals who have used the internet, which can be used via a computer, mobile phone, personal digital assistant, games machine, digital TV etc.

Zimbabwe has several internet providers, mainly Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, NetOne Cellular Private Limited and Telecel Group among others. New ISPs like StarLink Africa and DTel (Dolphin Telecoms) have been making an impact lately in Zimbabwe.

However, there is still a long way to go with new statistics by Datareportal showing that there were 5.48 million internet users in Zimbabwe at the start of 2024, which is an internet penetration of 32.6%.

This is similar to the internet penetration of 2022.

According to their report, Zimbabwe was home to 2.05 million social media users in January 2024, equating to 12.2% of the total population. A total of 13.88 million cellular mobile connections were active in Zimbabwe in early 2024, with this figure equivalent to 82.4% of the total population.
