Data: Zimbabwe completion rate in lower secondary school (1990-2024)

Zimbabwe has recorded a steady rise in lower secondary school completion rates over the past three decades, according to data from Our World in Data. The figures show completion stood at about 60% in 1990, climbing gradually to above 73% by 2024.

The indicator estimates the share of children who complete lower secondary education, even if later than the official age. For instance, a child expected to finish at 15 but completing at 18 is still included. This broader age band accounts for late school entry or grade repetition.

Data sources include household surveys, censuses, and administrative records, with statistical modelling applied to address missing or inconsistent observations. While figures may differ from official national statistics, the estimates provide a comparable view across countries.

The upward trend reflects Zimbabwe’s continued progress in expanding educational access, despite economic and social challenges affecting the country’s school system.
